Trying to Upload Dash Cam Footage to Northumbria Police

Cycling UK welcomes the Scottish Government's declaration of funding to develop a new national dashcam reporting portal for Police force Scotland as adept news for all responsible road users.
The news that Send Scotland has allocated £300,000 to the National Dashcam Prophylactic Portal follows a long campaign past the charity for the introduction of a system in Scotland which allows members of the public to upload footage of dangerous driving and other road crimes to the police.
Jim Densham, Cycling Uk's policy and campaigns manager for Scotland, said: "Following our campaigning, Cycling UK is extremely pleased to run into Send Scotland and Police Scotland's commitment to introducing a national dashcam safety portal which will help responsible road users provide testify of dangerous and careless driving.
"Roads police officers tin can't be everywhere on the roads but equally the use of dashcams and helmetcams continues to grow, they tin provide added eyes on the road collecting valuable evidence."
In March 2021, Cycling Britain led a grouping of 33 organisations representing all of Scotland's route users calling for Police Scotland to introduce a nationwide organisation to make Scotland'south roads safer.
The organisations – including Cycling United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland, the AA, the RAC, road safe charity Brake, British Motorcyclists Federation, British Horse Lodge Scotland and Living Streets Scotland – sent an open letter to Chief Superintendent Louise Blakelock, Head of Road Policing at Constabulary Scotland, saying Scotland needed a system that makes it quicker and easier to report and prosecute route crime.
With the increasing use of dashcams and cameras by cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders, the new arrangement will let footage of dangerous driving such equally speeding and close passes to be easily submitted past the public, to be assessed and action taken, making the roads safer for everyone, too as saving valuable police time.
Online systems allowing people to upload photographic camera footage and report incidents are already in utilise in 40 of the 45 police force force areas in the UK. Cycling UK understands that such systems cut an boilerplate of 8-12 hours of police force time per example, as dedicated noncombatant staff appraise the video evidence to reduce the workload of uniformed officers.
Between December 2019 and January 2021, Operation Snap in Wales saw the law accept activity confronting poor driving in 58% of cases where footage was submitted. Northumbria Police force stated last year that 77% of submissions to their system had resulted in activeness being taken against drivers.
Mr Densham said: "The new online portal, combined with a public awareness campaign volition create a much-needed deterrence, improve route prophylactic for vulnerable road users, and requite more people the confidence to go out on bikes."
